Why I Need A Sperm Donor

Chris (38) & Faye (34)

One summer when I was a teenager my friends and I went camping. We used to muck around a lot – as teenage boys do – having play fights, pulling pranks and trying out stunts. This trip was no different. I had climbed a tree to get a football out and slipped on the way down, getting caught on a piece of sharp wood – a snapped branch. My memory after that is hazy but an ambulance was called. When I got to hospital it turned out that I had sustained a very serious injury to my testicles. I didn’t really think too much about it at the time and what that might mean but when Faye and I talked about trying for a baby she thought it might be a good idea for me to get things checked out sooner rather than later. Unfortunately the tests revealed the worst case scenario – no sperm because of the damage from that teenage camping weekend. I think I’d put all the conversations from those teenage days in hospital to the back of my mind but now they are very much at the forefront. We both felt like we’d been punched when we got the news but now we’re ready to start building a family with the help of a sperm donor.
