What are the recipients like?
People who need egg and sperm donation come from all walks of life.
'Katharine'
I am 40 and my partner 41. We met at University and have been togerther ever since. We wanted everything to be just right before starting a family and sadly left it too late; after 18 months trying for a baby, aged 37, I went through an early menopause. IVF with donated eggs is now my only chance of pregnancy. I am lucky enough to be registered as NHS patient at Liverpool Women's Hospital, but they do not have any donors available. Therefore I am searching myself for that special woman whose generosity might be able to help me acheive my dream of being a mum.
If you would like more information, please contact Maureen Richards, egg donation coordinator at Liverpool Women's Hospital on 0151 702 4212, quote ref 386R, or contact me direct on

My husband and I are both 35 and we have been together for six years. We have been on the ‘baby path’ now for over four years and after countless tests, it was eventually confirmed that my husband does not produce any sperm. We then discovered that I am in 'early menopause' and that my eggs cannot be used. Our only hope now of having the family that we desperately would love and dream of, is with IVF using donor embryos or with separate donor eggs and sperm. Needless to say we were completely devastated and heartbroken and coming to terms with our situation has been an extremely difficult time for us.
However, after lots of tears and talking, after hours of doing our own research and after the agony of waiting on the NHS list for our ‘turn’ to come, we are now ready to start our treatment. All we need is our donor/s!
We know that what we are asking for is the greatest gift that one human being could ever give to another, we really do and for that we would be eternally and immeasurably grateful. Although if you are reading this then you too, have your own pain and struggles and I know you understand how much this means.
If you think you may be able to help, extra funding may be available for you if you live out of area. Here are our details and reference number:
- Ref no 407R
- Liverpool Womens Hospital (Contact: Maureen Richards 0151 702 4212)
- I am (unfortunately!) CMV negative.
- I am half Chinese, but I am told that Oriental donors are extremely rare and to ‘wait’ for one would be lessening our chances considerably, so we have decided not to look specifically for one. (But if you are of Oriental background that would be amazing!) However if not, then we would at least like to try and match our colouring/build as closely as possible. My husband's ethnic background is white.
