Donors have to be aged between 18 and 45, free from any serious medical problem and disability and with no history of congenital, family or hereditary disease.

It can be a big decision to go ahead and use donated gametes; take time to reflect about how you and your partner feel about the treatment.

Implications of using donated gametes can include the fact that any child will not have your genes & if, when and how to tell the child about their origin.  Benefits of telling them about their origin can include their psychological and emotional well-being, medical reasons, family relationships and for the childs future relationships.

Donors are encouraged to provide detailed information including a short description of themselves and a goodwill message to any child conceived.  You may find this helpful once the child starts to ask detailed questions.

Your clinic will take blood tests from you and will want to do some scans.  They will take a full medical history and, with your permission, contact your GP.

Recipients are matched closely with the donor for physical characteristics and the clinic will be able to talk you through the full treatment process.
