Today, Selina Warner is starting a (long!) sponsored bike ride around Scotland. She is so close to her target – please help support her fundraising for the Trust.
Life doesn’t always work out the way you think it will. There are diversions, crossroads and sometimes an enormous boulder can block your path!
This is how it felt when we found out that my husband couldn’t have children. All our life plans fell to pieces at our feet and we’ve been scrabbling around trying to stick them back together ever since.
We learnt very quickly that we needed the help of others to have a family. We realised that we were asking people who have never even met us to donate something so precious and important that it will change our lives forever. How could we ever repay them for such an incredible gift? I don’t know if we can, but we can certainly help support them.
Today I will be setting off on a bike trip I’ve been calling ‘The Long Way Home’. I’ll be leaving my parents-in-law’s house in Stirlingshire and instead of turning left and cycling a simple 4 miles up the road to my house, I’ll be turning right and travelling 450 miles over 7 days.
My aim is to raise awareness about infertility, raise funds for the NGDT and perhaps in the process one more person will decide to become an egg or sperm donor.
The training rides have been adventures in themselves. I’ve learnt a great deal about bike maintenance, how much to eat and drink and how to pace myself. I’ve also got lost several times, got up close to a snoozing owl, rescued a grumpy hedgehog from the middle of the road and got chased by a vicious little dog!
I know that there are going be many challenges ahead but all I can do is try my best and aim to arrive home with a sense of achievement and a bag full of dirty laundry!
I’m so close to my £3000 target but still need your sponsorship:
